Glenfield is the original name of the house, along with a large number of fields to the right of the house which used to form part of the plot. The woods and meadow below the house are locally named Pook.
This section is a bit of information and some house rules, please do read this carefully:
Check in/out: check in is after 4pm and check out is before 10 am - please do keep to these times so we can keep everything nice and clean.
Games: There are lots of board games in the big draws in the sitting room and card games in the small yellow draws.
TV: You can stream to the TV using chrome cast. Turn the TV on and put it on HDMI2, after a couple minutes a button should appear on your phone eg on Netflix, that looks like a rectangle with little wifi signal in the bottom corner, click on this and your streaming should appear on the TV. There are also lots of DVDs in the big draws in the sitting room please help yourself but do put them back in the correct boxes.
Woodburning Stoves: There are two wood burning stoves which you may like to use in winter. There are logs, paper and kindling in the baskets, the suggested method for lighting is big log at the bottom with scrunched up newspaper on top and then a few bits of kindling, keep the door closed but not shut to start with and then close completely when the fire gets going. There are bellows if it needs a helping hand. In case of emergency the fire extinguisher is situated to the left of the yellow cupboard in the sittingroom
Play Shed: There is a rather scruffy but functional table tennis table and small snooker/pool table, along with comfy seating, giant jenga and other bits and pieces. Please leave muddy shoes and clothes on the deck outside.
Heating: this is fixed to go on at certain times. It is quite complicated so please don’t change any of the settings. If there is a problem then please get in touch.
Cooker: do not use the eco setting on the oven as it doesn’t seem to do anything. If you are not familiar with Smeg ovens then we recommend using the fan setting (at 9 0 clock) and adjusting the temperature on the adjacent dial. There is more info on the other symbols below:
Bins: all bin systems are different so please do follow the North Dorset system (apologies if it seems complicated at first):
-Front bin in kitchen cupboard with black bin bag - general waste (when full move to big black bin by gate)
-Back bin in kitchen cupboard with clear bin bag - recycling paper and plastic (when full move to big green bin by gate)
-Side bin in kitchen cupboard - recycling glass (when full please empty into plastic bin box by gate)
-Food waste - into small bin in under sink cupboard
-Compostable food waste - there is a compost bin on the grass near the back door - it looks like a beehive. Please use this to dispose of veg peelings, tea bags and other uncooked green waste.
The bins are collected for by gate on a Thursday.
Towels: We have put out towels for use in the bathrooms and by the pool. These are all hammam towels from Turkey and although thinner than traditional towels work just as well. They use significantly less energy and water to wash so are also better for the environment.
Cutlery & Plates: we hope you don’t mind that they co-ordinate rather than match. If you are eating outside please use picnic plates, bowels, cups and wooden cutlery provided.
Utilities Locations:
Water Stopcock: to the right of toilet in downstairs loo at floor level
Gas Tap (for cooker only) : to left of side door of house on the gas cylinders behind wood slatted cover
Fuse Box: Bottom of tall green cupboard in the hall
Light bulbs: in sliding wall cupboards above washing machine
Wifi Password: on the base of the unit in the tall green cupboard in the hall
Heating: the heating is not adjustable as it is ridiculously complex
